Lost Vocabularies is a newsletter about the languages of creativity.
I’m Christie Little—an independent strategist, artist, and writer. Most of my days are spent with designers, makers, and other creative types, working together to find the language living just beneath the surface of their practice. Sometimes that language is spoken or written. Often it lives in a mood board, a sketch, a material sample, or a word someone has never quite been able to place.
What you'll find here:
Interviews with creative professionals about their processes and philosophies. Close readings of how people use language—visual, material, verbal—to deepen and define their practice. Explorations of creative tools: the mood board, the mind map, the reference image, the found object. Occasional deep dives into adjacent subjects, from restaurant design history to the meaning of museums.
Think of this as an open notebook: a glimpse into what I’m reading, learning, and the connections I’m making across the creative landscape.
Who this is for:
Creative studio owners and collaborators. Independent designers of all types. Anyone who finds value in exploring how and why they create.
