Hi! Welcome to Lost Vocabularies, a newsletter about creative voices and the ideas, practices, and play behind them—delivered to your inbox by designer + strategist Christie Little.

Who the *!%/ is Christie?

Art, design, and beauty build the framework for my life. Nurturing the people and places who perpetuate creativity—in all its forms—is a privilege I work joyfully to uphold.

After 15+ years of experience in design, brand, strategy, and creative direction, I currently specialize in foundational strategy out of my Los Angeles studio. I work alongside founders, teams, and agencies, mostly in creative spaces, from independent design shops to restaurants and retailers across the US.

Why a newsletter?

Most small businesses would benefit from one-on-one consulting, and *some* can even pull aside the funds… and time… and mental headspace to actually do it. And I love it when they can! But the truth is those resources are almost always scarce. Add to that the stuffy corporate vibe many strategists give off, and you’ve got a whole slew of insanely talented creative types running themselves into the ground with very little support, and it bums me the fuuuuuuck out.

So! Lost Vocabularies is my approach to filling a void. Think of it as a very affordable, fairly succinct, visually-driven, sometimes-off-topic and hopefully quite enjoyable check-in from your out-of-house (occasionally potty-mouthed) strategist.

Who’s it for again?

Creative professionals from restauranteurs and chefs to designers of all types, makers and artists, founders and visionaries across creative and cultural landscape.

How about the vibe?

Playful but informative. Casual but a little heady. Probably a dad joke here or there.

Get to the content.

You’ll get a lovely array of:

  • Interviews with creative professionals across industries.

  • Spotlights on creative processes, points of view, and approaches.

  • Examples of idea visualization techniques including mind maps, mood boards, journey maps, meditations, illustrations, and diagrams (by the best of the best).

  • The occasional research piece: on things like the history of kitchen design or the outline of a product launch.

  • Outlines and round-ups from exceptional media (think Monocle on Design podcasts or random youtube finds.)

  • And of course, content guided by you.

Why subscribe?

Un-paid subscribers get a weekly tidbit of creative play designed to expand creative thinking, as well as partial access to interviews and more.

Paid subscribers get it all, as well as front row seats to the chat room which will be evolving over time to best support the group.
